Calling all artists
poets
musicians
those who write very short stories.
very short.
is this really a need.
is a very short story
affirmation
that truly
niggas can’t read
for too long.
but what if the story
carries on
far beyond
the simplicity
of color lines
black or white
we’re all the same
negroes so to speak
but this negro
doesn’t wear Jordans.
it’s not that I think I’m better
or above
like adjacent tangents
over the curve
with precision
I just thought
why not
make my own decisions.
I don’t play ball
but I kick it
ain’t that
the same shit.
when I realized
I was different
it inflicted
a loneliness
hardly noticed
usually unseen.
too white to head over to south,
but too black to remain
on main.
and if you saw me
watching anime
you’d think I was a wanna be Asian
or insane.
it’s not my aim
to point fingers
or put anyone to blame.
I have my own set of mistakes
that I must walk with and car¬ry.
but the question of being white
black
too black
not black enough
bougie
African
Caribbean
white-washed
mixed
freak-
it needs to change
all I aspire to be
is to be a face
of a black man in a new age
and to tell all these white kids
that we’re not all the same.
the new black era
we can call it a renaissance.
but I can’t do it alone.
I’m tired of being rouge .
I’m tired of being
looked down on
for whatever reason.
I’m just looking for some people
to walk on that high road
as equals.
call me childish
but gambino
really taught me a lot
cause you see
if we can make this
to wherever you go
we go.
we can become stronger
regardless of whether
you’re into
rock music
or migos.
