About Us

The Black Voice is student-run media outlet that engages in and furthers the intellectual, economic, educational, political, social and cultural dialogue of Black peoples at Syracuse University and in the greater Syracuse community. Black peoples shall refer to, but is not limited to, students, faculty, staff, alumni and community residents of African descent. The Black Voice publishes a monthly newspaper printed throughout the academic year and maintains a website.

Established in 1968, under the auspices of the Student African American Society, The Black Voice has long advocated for the interests of Black people. Our goal is to remain a critical medium for students to understand and engage their community and to be a platform for the University to participate in debate on critical issues.

On our website we intend to connect to readers by providing consistent coverage of the Syracuse community that incorporates dynamic multimedia components and high-quality written work.
